A reduced entry of cast rams and ewes forward this week seeing the biggest and best ewes back a fraction.
Rams topping today at £280, firstly from M & RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe with £280 matched for another pair of rams from TA & JA Dixon, Selside. Ewes to £222 for Texels from E Dodgson, Kendal. Mules to £182 from TMW & H Hodgson, Ulverston with Rough Fells topping the hill bred sheep at £176 from J Hunter, Tebay.

Mule Hoggs with lambs topping at £620
The weather wasn’t the only thing that was red hot today, trade, particularly for the Mules was on fire. A larger number than the previous year was present and trade was strong on the whole all round.

Topping todays trade and breaking a second sale record went to the Winter Brothers, Clickham making £620, their reserve champion pen made £500. Texel hoggs were topped out at £410 from G & KM Atkinson, Colby.
Trade for Mule hoggs, which were definitely the largest increase on the year, and were the best to sell with an average of £179.08 a life.
EWE & LAMB
Average - £112.41 per life
Ewe & Lamb trade saw an uplift in price compared to the last couple of weeks.
Shearling trade stole the show today with an average of £132 a life with a top price of £435 for a pen of Texels with Twins from G & KM Atkinson, Colby. The same firm topped the Mule ewe class at £385 for a pen of Mules with Twins. Texel ewes were topped at £405 by Messrs Jukes.
Swaledale ewes were in demand, the majority having Mule lambs on them. These averaged at £94 per life.

PRIME LAMBS & HOGGS
Both prime hoggs and spring lambs still selling extremely well. Hoggs in short supply and slightly less numbers forward on the week.
Dutch Spotted hoggs sold to £262 from Messrs JE & SM Seedall. Texel sold to £260 from Alan Thompson. A pair from Messrs N Barker hit £250 or 446.4p/kg. The same good home sold others to 442.3p/kg. Messrs B Clark also sold Texel to the same money. Cheviots hit 432.5p/kg from Messrs AA Bentham. A pen of 10 Herdwicks made 428.6p/kg from Lakeland Farm Visitor Center. Swaledale hoggs topped at 423.9p/kg from Messrs TWM & H Hodgson.
Prime Lambs topped at £262 for Texels from Messrs DW Parsons. Messrs E Dodgson hit £238 for 53kg Texels and £230 or 500p/kg for 46kg Texels. Messrs FI & ME Little also hit the 500p/kg mark with the best end of lambs tremendous to sell from the start to finish. Slightly lighter weight lambs from Messrs D & DW Prickett sold to 487.2p/kg. 37kg lambs from the same good home made 486.5p/kg for a pen of four.

Strong show of pigs today with an improved prime trade. Top price was from Messrs Navesey at £220 each for pen of 104kg gilts. Weaners topped at £90 with a healthy average of £48. Overall pence per kilo for prime was 172pkg. A very large entry expected next sale.
